Hitwise, the Web measurement service, put out some results on some of the trends in online holiday shopping for last week. (And photo from Chrisdecurtis)
*U.S. Traffic to Alternative Payment Web sites (e.g. Google Checkout, Bill Me Later, etc.) is up 17%
(I guess like me, they’re getting sick and tired of Paypal)
*Search Engines are responsible for 29 percent of Retail website visits.
(This seems smaller than I would have thought. People are going directly to merchants or to comparison shopping sites.)
*Traffic to Social Shopping web sites is up a lot. Examples include Kaboodle, ThisNext, and StyleHive.
(They say the traffic is up 683%. But I think that’s so high that it has to be off a tiny tiny base)
*Searches on the term ‘gift cards’ is up 29%
(Ok, this one befuddles me. I really don’t like gift cards. I never use them up entirely or I end up having to spend my own money to get what I want. Ugh!)
