WordPress 2.4 Delayed - Now Will Be WordPress 2.5 in March: Weblog Tools Collection and others announced that WordPress 2.4 has been delayed in order to give more time to the development of the new Administration Panel interface and other improvements and features. The next major release of WordPress is scheduled for March, not January, and will be WordPress 2.5. This is not the first time WordPress has skipped a version, and each time, it’s been worth it.

Mandatory Security Release WordPress 2.3.2: WordPress 2.3.2 has been released and is a mandatory security upgrade. The full details of the update include an urgent security release to fix a vulnerability in draft posts, suppression of some errors messages that may put your database at risk, and other bug fixes. Very odd combination to choose from and no clarification that the vote is for WordPress.com not WordPress overall, but your vote for WordPress is always welcome by the WordPress Community. Automattic CEO, Toni Schneider is nominated for Best start-up CEO, so cast a vote there, too. Can someone tell me why WordPress.com isn’t listed in the Best overall category?

WordPress Security News: Scott Rosenber’s WordYard reports on “WordPress Footer Follies, his attempt to clean up unwanted hacked spam links in his footer, tracing it back to a script inserted into the index.php files that recreated the spam links in the footer even after they had been deleted. Reports on other Theme hacks, including on Gigaom, are coming out frequently. All because WordPress users are not upgrading WordPress and their Themes. No more excuses. Upgrade WordPress now.

WordPress Wins and Loses: Drupal won the Overall 2007 Open Source CMS Award, and WordPress won for the Best Social Networking for Open Source, a new category “designed to recognize Content Management Systems that promoted the collaboration and distribution of information and development of communities.” The award netted WordPress another USD $2,000 in addition to the monetary award for being a finalist in the award competition.

WordPress 2.3.1 Released: The latest version of WordPress is out and contains security fixes, which makes this a mandatory upgrade. It also includes tagging support for Windows Live Writer, faster taxonomy database queries, and fixes to the login and link importer.
