Vista and AGP graphics problem

Posted in Live (January 1, 2008 at 11:28 pm)

I’m upgrading a P4 machine to run vista and am running around in circles.

The ‘box’ has onboard graphics, but I have installed a Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card. The driver from here is for all ATI graphics cards. Basically one driver fits all.

As soon as I start the machine vista automatically goes to install the driver for the card, in device manager the error message is Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

I then uninstall the driver Vista installed and install the ati catalyst one with the control centre and everything. After re-booting I get the message no ati graphics driver is installed, or the ATI driver is not functioning properly. Vista automatically keeps installing it’s own Radeon 9800 Pro driver in device manager.

Is there a default location I should install the ATI driver to so Vista can pick it up?…more
