I’m really hoping for Apple to enter the UMPC arena.
They won’t be able to compete with the eeePC v1 pricing, but an UMMac, possibly with a tailored-to-fit OSX, would definitely liven up the market and force some moves from the competitors.

My next Mac, however, will only be one where the OS is concerned.

i sincerely hope that there will be an update to leopard to allow zooming and swipign via exiting macbook/macbook pro trackpads. i’ms till more than a year from buying a new machine.

My computer already does trackpad zooming. If I hold the control key and use the 2 finger scrolling it zooms in and out. I don’t remember if that was something I set up in the preferences or if it’s a default. I know typically command-option-8 enables zooming and command-option-= zooms in and command-option– zooms out.

@madcow3417: One of my favorite ways to prank friends that use Macs: Hold down the control key and then scroll up on their mighty mouse. They get pretty dizzy trying to figure out what’s going on.

@madcow3417: my mb does the control zooming thing too, but i think what they are talking about is the ability to have two fingers on the trackpad and be able to separate them to zoom

Personally, I don’t care about ultraportables but if it makes Apple more popular then I’m all for it. What I’m looking forward to is that sweet sweet Leopard update. A bunch of bugfixes, some tweaks and maybe a good speed boost would be really nice.

Ultraportable Mac? Yeah, there are enough people drinking the apple kool-aid that would surely lineup to spend 3k for a 10″ macbook with no optical drive and all flash memory.
