@dna: Pixar movies, as opposed to Dreamworks movies are truly unique. They have original music, characters, stories, etc. Some of Disney’s early movies were great, yes. But their recent stuff is horrendous. Badly done. Shortly before Disney bought Pixar, Steve Jobs rightly criticized Disney movies for pretty much sucking worse than anything else out there.
Dreamwork, on the other hand, uses stilted old ideas, pop music and tired old themes, and just plain stupid ideas (Treasure Planet? Please!). Shrek, though pretty good, also lacked the level of creativity that makes Pixar films unique. Maybe some of Pixar’s films don’t have replayability like Snow White, but some do. I know of plenty of families where the kids play Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo over and over again. I suspect Rattatooie is going to be another.
As for the Warner Annoucement, this is great news! I’m going home and watching my new 5-disc Blu ray version of Blade Runner tomorrow, glad I bought a Sony Blu-ray player.
